Hey Poindexter!!

January 15, 2010

I remember when I was in grade school, glasses were usually only for the nerdy kids. In high school, it was all about contact lenses; you never knew who used them for the colored-contacts or for the actual necessity. Personally, as a life-long wearer of glasses, I've always tried to find the least "old-man" style of frames possible. I actually had Lasik done when I was 20 but my vision was so bad, I had to get glasses again when I was 23. I don't mind though, I LOVE my glasses.

Nowadays there are so many companies and designers making frames to fit our modern-day style. No more giant-nerd glasses, no more "coke-bottle" lenses; now we can wear our glasses as an accessory, whether they are a necessity or not.

Check out these handsome frames from California-based Raen Optics. They offer a variety of both prescription frames and sunglasses. For more info, visit their website RaenOptics.com.

New Year's Diet Resolution? Beware!

January 11, 2010

The New Year is typically a time for most Americans to set their goals and try to lose those pesky extra pounds. We join gyms and watch what we eat. However, counting calories on the back of a box can be misleading. In fact, most of those healthy alternatives can be packed with more calories than listed. According to the Journal of the American Diabetic Association, prepared healthy selections in your grocer's freezer can have an average of 8% more calories than listed! If you decide to go out and eat at a restaurant that has calories listed on their menus, they can have 18% more calories than listed. To fight back, consumer's should not take labels "as is" and should add 10% to the calorie count for frozen items and other grocery foods, and 20% for restaurant foods.

From A Gal's Perspective.

December 12, 2009
It's been a while since we've had one of these posts; actually, we've only had one. This is something that I feel sets us apart from any other blogs geared towards men. Giving you the perspective of a woman. Here is a column that is exactly what we want; straight to the point, no beating around the bush. Enjoy it and let me know what you think by sending an email to farzad@themensfashionblog.com

OK Gentlemen, you really wanna WOW your girl this holiday season? Take my advice and believe me that this is coming from a girl who has been in many relationships and has received many different Christmas/Valentines/Birthday gifts. I've seen my share of the typical Bath and Body Works routine that you may get her every year, the cozy bathrobe, the oh-so-safe piece of jewelry and the poems from the heart. Don't get me wrong, I've loved them all but if if you really want to wow her [and I mean WOW her], then get her that great pair of designer shoes that she's [not-so-secretly] been wishing for. Im talking the sexiest, hottest designer shoe; one she wouldn't typically buy for herself. A pair thats so sexy, expensive and different that she'll feel as though they were meant for your eyes only. It's something that every girly-girl will love whether its on her wishlist or not. Also, it tells her you want to see her in an intimate setting [possibly wearing nothing but the shoes?]. Trust me, you might even get what's on your wishlist and be thanking me later! ;-)

Here are a couple of ideas to get you started -- Even though she is hated by some and loathed by most Cowboys fans, Jessica Simpson makes some killer shoes that are most moderately priced. For extra brownie points, throw in the Jessica Simpson purse/bag too. The really hot thing out this season are knee-high or thigh-high boots. Some great places to find these are AldoShoes.com and/or Piperlime.com. They've got lots of different styles and brands to choose from. Let me know how it goes!

Yours Truly,
T

Iron Man.

December 10, 2009

A few of the biggest holidays are just around the corner and to help you look your best in all the pictures you'll inevitably be in, I've got some ironing tips for you. Christmas and New Years are a great time to spend time with family and friends, enjoy fantastic food and have a few amazing parties. Most of these occasion require that you show up in a little more than a t-shirt and jeans. My biggest pet peeve is someone will spend $100 on a new shirt and wear it straight from the store, fold-lines and all. Wrinkles not only show the world that you're lazy, it shows that you obviously miss your mom's helping hand. Instead of showing up to your holiday parties looking like a crumpled up newspaper, follow these simple steps to a crisp, clean looking shirt.

1] Check the tag of your shirt. You need to know if the shirt can, in fact, be ironed and what setting your iron should be turned to. Overheating your iron can make your shirt look glossy and can burn the fabric.
2] Most irons have a water reservoir that needs to be filled. This give your iron steam which helps get rid of those wrinkles.
3] Place the garment on the ironing board as if the ironing board is wearing the garment. Make sure the garment is inside out.
4] Make sure you have starch on hand. This ensures that you get a crisp, sturdy collars and cuffs. [Leave these parts for last. Spray them lightly with starch and quickly iron until the starch is no longer visible. You don't need starch for the entire garment.]
5] Start ironing. Always keep the iron moving; never let it sit in one place too long or you could burn the clothes.
6] If you aren't going to wear the shirt when you're done, fold it or hang it right away so it won't get any wrinkles.
7] If you still feel like ironing isn't for you, get a steamer. They're just as quick and easy as ironing without all the thinking. Just hang the garment and steam out the wrinkles.

For those of you who don't have an iron, don't go to the store and buy a cheap, crappy iron. These irons will last you about a month and can damage your clothes if they're not used properly. A good iron is an essential part of any guys laundry room. The technology in this iron makes me giddy (what?....I like to iron). The Panasonic 360-Degree Quick Multi-Directional Steam Iron gets wrinkles out of your favorite shirt in a jiffy. Buy it and check out a quick video by clicking HERE
